The understory layer is next followed by the final layer the floor of the rainforest.

Forest floor layer of the rainforest animals.

The tropical rainforest animals fauna live in different layers strata of the jungles. About 50 90 of the life in a rainforest lives in this section. The forest floor is also where decomposition takes place. Leaves that fall to the forest floor decay quickly.

Large leafed shrubs and saplings new trees grow in the patches of sunlight. Cats armadillos and anteaters. The forest floor is teeming with animal life particularly insects and arachnids also larger animals such as jaguars pumas gorillas anteaters and large snakes like the anaconda and the boa constrictor. Decomposition is the process by which fungi and microorganisms break down dead plants and animals and recycle essential materials and nutrients.

Dead leaves fallen from the plants in the layers above cover the ground. The rainforest canopy is also home to the greatest amount of animals compared with other layers of this forest. A large number of small mammals birds reptiles and predators like the jaguar inhabit this layer. Only two per cent of sunlight gets through the thick canopy trees and understorey plants to reach the forest floor.

Some of the largest animals make a living on the rainforest floor. The forest floor is the lowest layer where it is dark hot and damp. Thousands of insects butterflies and birds such as toucans are drawn to live in the canopy because of the abundance of food. The forest floor is the bottom layer of the rainforest and its also the darkest layer of the rainforest.

The tropical rainforest layer between the forest floor and the canopy is the understory layer and it receives only about 5 of the sunlight. The forest floor is generally dark and damp and is home to many plants insects amphibians spiders small mammals and lizards. Shade tolerant shrubs small trees woody vines and herbs comprise the vegetation of this layer. The forest floor is the lowest layer where it is dark hot and damp.

It is also the most humid part of the rainforest. Common animals in emergent layer are birds such as harpy eagles scarlet macaw etc bats some insects pygmy gliders rainforest monkeys such as capuchin monkeys squirrel monkeys etc and morpho butterflies blue colored ones. Decomposer s such as termites slugs scorpions worms and fungi thrive on the forest floor. Only two percent of sunlight gets through the thick canopy trees and understory plants to reach the forest floor.

The trees found in this layer take huge advantages of the heights they are in. The forest floor is the darkest of all rainforest layers making it extremely difficult for plants to grow. Dead leaves fallen from the plants in the layers above cover the ground. Large leafed shrubs and saplings new trees grow in the patches of sunlight.
